Dr. Gary Elkins, Director of the Mind-Body Medicine Research Laboratory, was recently interviewed by Lisa Arbetter for an article in Oprah Daily. Our research explores the use of clinical hypnosis as a non-pharmacological treatment for hot flashes, particularly in menopausal women. The study aims to evaluate the efficacy of hypnosis in reducing the frequency and intensity of hot flashes and its impact on overall quality of life. Participants undergo a structured hypnosis protocol, which includes guided imagery and relaxation techniques designed to modulate the body’s response to hot flashes.
Preliminary results have been promising, indicating significant reductions in the occurrence and severity of hot flashes among participants. Additionally, many participants have reported improved sleep quality and mood, suggesting that hypnosis may offer holistic benefits beyond symptom management.
